The third Dornoch Whisky Festival welcomes Stephen Rankin as our VIP. Stephen is the UK Sales Director for Gordon & MacPhail and is part of the fourth generation of this proud family business that has been established for 120 years, and which has grown since its humble beginnings in 1895 into an internationally renowned malt maturation expert, retailer, UK wholesaler, and distiller. Stephen will host a dinner in Links Houseon Friday 27th where a 4 course tasting menu has been carefully created by award winning Head Chef Jon-Paul Saint and complimented by hand selected, award winning malts to complement each course, including an exclusive bottling specially for this event. On Saturday 28th Stephen will lead a VIP Whisky Masterclass in the Carnegie Whisky Cellars featuring a range of Gordon & MacPhail bottlings.
The Gordon & MacPhail theme continues on Sunday 28th, when Royal Dornoch Golf Course is the venue for the David Urquhart Memorial Trophy. Entrants will play a stableford round on the Championship Course with the highest points total receiving the trophy, donated by the Carnegie Whisky Cellars, in this inaugural event. David Urquart was Joint Managing Director of Gordon & MacPhail with his brother Michael, but David sadly passed away on November 30th 2015, aged 63. Our keen golfer VIP, Stephen Rankin (nephew of David Urquhart) will also compete.
The Dornoch Pipe Band will play in the Square to launch the Grand Tasting Event on Saturday 27th in the Dornoch Castle Hotel with over 20 tables including Douglas Laing, Cadenhead, Distell, Gordon & MacPhail, Glenfarclas, GlenWyvis, The Buck & Birch, Wolfburn, Springbank, Cadenhead’s, Elixir, Strathearn as well as Dornoch’s own Dornoch Distillery & The Carnegie Whisky Cellars.
Throughout the weekend and throughout the town there are other events including whisky and gin tastings, dinners, masterclasses, a Dornoch Distillery Brunch, a Douglas Laing Desserts Tasting, Dornoch Stores Cheese, Wine and Craft Beer tasting and whisky scented candle making with Coast Candle Co.
There is live music in the Eagle on Friday nights and a ceilidh in the Castle on Saturday night, when the grand prize draw takes place – which is your chance to win A North Coast 500 Tour Package for Two.
