Hayley Whalvin from Southampton has been crowned as the winner of the Jessops Share Your Summer photography competition, in partnership with Sony, beating more than 1000 other photographers to the title to win photography kit worth £3,000.
Hayley was announced as the overall winner of Jessops Share Your Sumer photography competition, now in its second year on Friday 8th September at a ceremony at Somerset House in London. After much deliberation, Hayley’s image was chosen as the overall winner of this national competition.
The Jessops and Sony judging panel, which was chaired by photographer and Sony Ambassador Robert Pugh, said this on Hayley’s win: “Hayley’s winning image of the mouse just keeps pulling me in, making me glaze over and ponder how it was taken. The complexity of the image made it really stand out. The image itself is very pleasing to the eye and I could see that hanging in my own front room in a frame. For me, it was the winner and I knew they would put the Sony equipment to good use in their photography.”
On her win, Hayley Whalvin said: “I feel proud and humbled to have won, especially when I saw the other images that made up the final ten at the Share Your Summer party.”
Hayley’s image was celebrated in a ceremony at the incredibly photographic Somerset House, a venue steeped in creative history. All runners up and winners had their dreams realised with their very own exhibition open to VIP guests.
Tanya Murray, Marketing Manager of Jessops, said: “Now running in its second year, our Share Your Summer campaign is designed to give photographers from all walks of life the opportunity to exhibit a photo they are really proud of across 58 Jessops shops in major UK cities, shopping centres and high streets. It is clear that the nation’s passion for photography is ever-present with people posting photographs daily on social media. However, it is rare that anyone would ever get the opportunity to share an exceptional image any further than this. We want everyone to have the opportunity to have their very own exhibition where all are invited to view it.”
The Jessops Share Your Summer campaign launched in June 2017 for a second year in search of the ten most creative summer shots. Entrants were required to submit a photo and motive that summed up their summer, then upload it to Twitter, Instagram or Facebook and tag Jessops and using the hashtag #ShareYourSummer2017.
