Established in January 2014 as a not-for-profit social enterprise, Tri Angus Limited was set up to organise and deliver a new event in Montrose on Sunday, 1 June 2014. The long term vision is to organise a series of good quality, fun and safe triathlons across Angus. Our aim in doing this is to:
- encourage public participation in local races for people of all ages and abilities to improve their quality of life
- advance education by providing opportunities for participants to expand their skills, knowledge and interest in the sport of triathlon
- assist with the development of and support new and existing triathlon clubs
- provide volunteer opportunities and therefore promote community development and citizenship
The event was well organised and run. Registrations started from 10:30 with the first briefing for teams at around 11:20. The race started shortly after. Groups of 30 started their races in the swimming pool followed by a sprint out to waiting cycles, with a very quick turn around time to dab dry and get ready to cycle across the Montrose bridge towards Ferryden and back to the sports centre. The cycle ride was tougher than anticipated with a steady incline most of the route. Cycles parked the competitors switched into running mode for two laps of the nearby golf course before finally crossing the finish line.
